The Battle for the Hearts and Minds of Men
Ryan Michler

Category Tags:

Family Leadership, Personal Growth

Prior to outlining his intuitively designed daily guide, The Battle Plan, Ryan Michler meticulously lays out the qualities a man should posses, The Code of Conduct. Not reformed qualities conjured up and massaged for a 21st century male or even those of an old school hard-ass. Basic qualities that define the epitome of man regardless of era. Each one, thirteen in total, is dissected to understand its meaning, analyzed to ingrain its significance, applied through developing the proper mindset, and carried out through an effective skill set.
As I read, I continuously found myself nodding along as though my own thoughts were being read back to me. However, each chapter seemed to reach a point of thought that surpassed my previous depths. This book is well thought out, well written, and much needed today. Every man, no matter your phase of life, could benefit from this read.

Sovereignty
Lessons Learned From Lives Well Lived
Admiral William H. McRaven

Personal Motivation

Similar to his previous book, Admiral McRaven gets to the point...no fluff. He outlines ten characteristics of a "Hero", describing how each can be put into practice each day. Of course there are stories of his time throughout the Seals and beyond, but each chapter ends with a simple call to action that can be taken by anyone. Quick and easy read, but highly motivational.

This is an excellent book, written in the early 2000's. It is a well written book that does not take long to work through. It is not an arduous read, and highly interesting with the subject matter. It challenges any man, let alone women, to recognize the dependency of the common American. On luxury, technology, on the ease of present day living. It follows a unique individual, Eustace Conway, in his amazing path on this earth, one that continues even now. It immediately challenged me to be more conscious of the type of living I partake in. I highly recommend this book to broaden your horizon. To make your own attempts to hearken back to a wild frontier that was partially tamed by individuals with a devout discipline, work ethic, and heartiness. We could use more of this mentality in this day.

The Last American Man
Answering A Skeptic's Challenges To Christianity
Mark Clark

The Problem of God is one of the most impressive books I have ever read. This is primarily due to the amount of research completed and craftfully articulated throughout the book. Each chapter is packed with historical references, interviews, book quotes, etc. In total, there are 267 references (Notes P.251-267). What is even more fascinating, is that large number of these are non-Christian references. Author Mark Clark dives deep into Christian critics, theories, and the references that are used to disprove Christianity. He then digs to the root of each opposing idea or thought to determine how or where it originated, how it has propagated throughout history to become what it is today, and how history, the bible, or archeological studies have already disproved it.

If you are a Christian that struggles with skeptical feelings about any part of your faith, an atheist that wants to see why us crazy Christians believe what we do, or anywhere in between, this is an excellent and must read book for you.

This was a series I found through my wife's family. It is an expansive series that started as a school project back in the late 1960's. A full furnished book of southern Appalachia mountain living in all its glory. It started as a young teacher attempting to have his class learn beyond the normative curriculum of school and the doldrums that come with it. He wanted to capture the essence, experience, the color of the surrounding hills and the interesting and resourceful people that inhabited it. The full collection is a wealth of knowledge 100 years in the making. The series is expensive but book by book, it is affordable and very worth it. It is a detailed anthology that can guide an inquisitive individual into the skills of the old country that are mostly lost to history in these technologically driven days.

To steal a line from FoxFire Book 1 Ever want to know about "hog dressing, log cabin building, mountain crafts and foods, planting by the signs, snake lore, and hunting tales, faith healing, moonshining, and other affairs of plain living" Well good sirs, then this series is for you!

The Resolution for Men targets each aspect of a mans life from a biblical perspective. It outlines what it means to be a truly courageous leader of your family. How to show your wife the love that Jesus had for the church. How to foster a solid relationship with your children and loving discipline. In addition, it combats men's struggles and addictions with biblical principles. It truly is a wonderful book for any Christian man, especially for a father.
