One aspect of being an Intentional Father is not bulldozing all barriers in your child's life.
Experience is one of the best learning tools at our disposal.
As a parent, there are times we must force ourselves into the zone of discomfort in order for our children to learn by way of experience.
Allow them the space to fail. Foster an environment in which mistakes don't harm but teach.
The more you do this now, while your child is within your home, the better equipped they will be to take on world, alone.

As I write this, my beautiful wife and 3 day old son are peacefully sleeping next to me.
Words cannot describe the respect, admiration, and love I have for this woman.
No thoughts written can truly capture the innocence, vulnerability, or peacefulness of this child.
There are a multitude of things I could write and reflect on in this moment. But given this site is to encourage and equip fathers, today I want to talk about the feeling of helplessness experienced when your wife is giving birth.
As I go through fatherhood, there are moments I look back on and wish a heads up and been given for what was to come. Whether I take the information to heart or merely brush it off, it at least has been brought to my attention.
That is why I am writing this today.

One aspect of Personal Accountability that normally gets overlooked is managing distractions and giving each activity and moment in your life full attention.
As a father, husband, employee, etc., pro-actively remove distractions where able to prevent your attention from being unintentionally redirected.

No doubt, having your toddler or young child helping in simple activities can be frustrating.
I've struggled with this time and again.
It would be so much faster if I just did it.
It would get done better if I just did it.
It would...
Take a deep breath, ensure you are not time limited, and reframe it in your mind as time spent with your child instead of time completing a task. For me, this is the key.
This is something my wife is fantastic at. Every time she cooks, she asks our 5 year old son if he would like to help. A couple times, I have had to leave the kitchen due to anxiety of watching him stir pasta sauce or dip the chicken in egg then breading...but there have been meals where he has done every single step nearly himself. What an amazing learning opportunity and confidence boost. (Not to mention, he is more apt to try and eat the meal rather than saying it looks yucky! Parenting win!)
Try to slow down the day to day rush to enjoy these little moments. Instead of rushing to simply accomplish a task, take your time and turn it into an intentional moment.
This is easier said than done. But what if you tried to look at tasks from this point of view?
It's worth a shot.

I want to give recognition to all the good parents who work tirelessly to serve their families.
This site is dedicated to fathers being all they can for their family. I want to give credit to the fathers staying the course for their loved ones. The tangibles and intangibles of this act truly cannot be quantified.
Take pride in your service gents. Take pride in making tough decisions that benefit your children before yourself. Take pride in being the right father, gentleman. I commend you all for it.

Nature and life that fills it is one of the most genuine experiences a human can partake in.
It is not malice filled, it is not fickle, it is not plagued by the greed of humans. It may be harsh and unyielding at times but it does not do so in a personal vendetta manner so often seen in our species.
What birds or wildlife do you see? Make a list of creatures you encounter. Discuss as a family what the animals, and or life you witness, are doing and what is important to them in their lives. Build interest in these creatures, research and identify what you see with after trip learning. Discuss the importance of conservation, cleanliness, outdoor etiquette to enhance their respect of the wild.
Real life experiences in nature will embolden the character inside your child and give them confidence in their own person. This is a vital psychological component in their own navigation of the wild river that is life ahead of them.
What are you waiting for!!?
See you out in the woods gents.
